Delle and CPP National Executive resolute

Accra, Aug. 26, GNA - Dr Edmund Nminyem Delle, National Chairman of the Convention People's Party (CPP) on Saturday, appealed to members of the party to remain resolute in their defence of the principles and tenets of Nkrumaism.

He said, "The daunting challenges facing the party are the works of reactionary forces that intend to divert the Party's attention and resources from focusing on strategies for winning the 2008 General Election using internal antagonism for their selfish gains". Dr Delle urged members, sympathisers and activists of the CPP not to be perturbed, but to remain focused and to concentrate on efforts to win the 2008 General Election.

The CPP Chairman who was reacting to calls for the resignation of the National Executive of the party by the Patriots, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the "recent developments and provocations are rather a good omen for the party",

"It has united members to fight and defeat opposing forces both within and outside to enable the Party to go to the Castle," he stated. Dr Delle pointed out that the Party hierarchy was made up of tested men and women and problem solvers, who would help the CPP to surmount its problems.

"What is important is for all members, from the national executives through the regions, constituencies and the ward levels, to focus on the common agenda of the CPP to liberate Ghana from economic enslavement once again," the CPP Chairman said.

"Independence was fought and won through struggle from both within and outside the CPP. The victory of those of the Nkrumaist tradition in 1979 was through internal struggle and bickering and the result of the December 2008 elections would follow the trend. We have all that it takes to win again," Dr Delle stated.

He cautioned members to desist from creating internal problems and divisions that could affect CPP's strategies saying, "The masses would not forgive the CPP if we fail to provide a humane leadership to once again liberate Ghana to propel the nation forward". He said, "People in Ghana, West Africa, Africa and the World are expecting the CPP to offer another visionary and inspiring leadership" Dr Delle urged members of the CPP to renew their loyalty to the party and to remain focused to ward off destabilising acts before the December 2008 elections.

He also appealed to them to use structures of the Party to resolve differences, adding, "CPP is a big family and as such family matters must be solved within. We should not run to the outside world first. Let us use internal mechanism for conflict resolution". Dr Delle advised leading members of the CPP to be circumspect in expressing their personal sentiments publicly and not to create the impression that it was the position of the Party. 27 Aug 06
