Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Dennis Onyango has praised Ghanaian shot stopper Richard Ofori for his amazing season with Maritzburg United.

The former Wa All Stars goalkeeper has been in superb form with Maritzburg United in the South African Premier Soccer League earning him a nomination for the best goalkeeper of the year.

The Black Stars goalkeeper has been in fantastic form as Maritzburg United lie fourth on the league table.

Ofori's performances caught the eye of the one time Africa footballer of the year based on the continent, who is full of praise for the Ghanaian.

“There’s me, there’s [Richard] Ofori who has done well for Maritzburg and there’s also Sage Stephens who has done well for Cape Town City. I think he has 11 or 12 clean sheets.” Onyango told Kickoff.

“I don’t know the procedure they follow, but if it’s about clean sheets, then Khune wins it hands down. He has done fantastic for the team, but if you look at how you’ve helped the team achieve, I think they would look at different individuals.”

“A lot of things have to be looked at, not at only clean sheets. You need to look at how you helped the team achieve and that will be done by the committee. But at the moment I think Itu has done well and not to disregard the other guys. For me, whichever way it goes it will be fine with me.”

Richard Ofori will be contesting for the safest pair of hands awards with Itemeleng Khune of Orlando Pirates and the veteran shot-stopper Dennis Onyango of Mamelodi Sundowns.
