A Dental x-ray ordered by a Kumasi Circuit Court to ascertain the age of an accused person who claimed to be a minor, has proved he is 21.
Gilbert Amande, the accused who is unemployed, was said to have put his age at 17 years when he first appeared before the court on 26 March 2019, charged with attempted robbery and causing unlawful harm.
He was remanded by the court presided over Madam Mary Nsenkyire who ordered a dental x-ray to ascertain the accused’s real age.
Madam Nsenkyire said uncertainties about accused’s age could affect the outcome of the trial and accused was therefore ordered to do so before the next adjourned date.
Chief Inspector Timothy Amoako, prosecuting, told the court that the accused on 20th October 2018 about 2100 hours, attacked and robbed Faustina Foro, a seamstress and the complainant, who resides at Santasi, a surburb of Kumasi.
Prosecution said the complainant on her way home after close of work, was attacked with a piece of sharp metal by the accused, robbing her of her mobile phone valued at GH? 500.00, after a struggle which left her with multiple wounds.
Chief Inspector Amoako told the Court that, accused then took to his heels with the phone leaving complainant to her fate.
He said the complaint made a report to the police who issued her a medical report form to attend hospital, while they began a search for accused.
The Prosecution said the accused was later spotted at a hide-out and arrested by civilians who handed him over to the police.
He said during police investigations, he confessed to the crime was subsequently charged.
