Any punitive action taken against Youth and Sports Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak must affect the deputy Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia, MP for Manhyia has said.
Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh is accusing Mr. Segbefia of lying to the nation when he Segbefia, together with a consortium of businessmen said they had personally funded a trip to the Ivory Coast, venue for the CHAN Under-20 tournament held in February this year.
It has been alleged the Sports Minister, Muntaka Mubarak ordered a refund of some $10,000 from the Ministry as landing charges for aircraft used by Mr. Segbefia and his others for the said trip.
This was contained in a 17 point allegation made against the Minister by an accountant at the Sports Ministry.
The Minister was also alleged to have requested a refund of GH¢674.02 in respect of baby oil, baby food, mouth wash and household items.
Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak has dismissed the claims as a pack of lies from a disgruntled official.
The allegations notwithstanding, Dr. Prempeh in an interview with Citi News said Alex Segbefia, the Deputy Chief of Staff must be held responsible for his role in the profligate expenditure in the ministry.
Whilst calling for thorough investigations into the allegations, the MP said Mr. Segbefia must be axed from the presidency if he is found guilty.
