Deputy Education Minister offers 20 million-cedi scholarship

Nkoranza (B/A), Oct 11, GNA - Mr. Kwame Ampofo- Twumasi, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, has offered a 20 million-cedi scholarship for brilliant but needy students at the Nkoranza Secondary Technical School.

He also provided two million cedis to support four pupils in the District who participated in this year's National Basic Schools Milo Marathon in Accra.

They are Master Kwabena Effa of Bonsu Methodist Primary, 3rd, Miss Eva Amankwaa of Manso Methodist primary, 5th and Rhoda Kundelik and Amma Kumbatizie of Tiniabu Local Primary, 6th and 11th respectively. Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi who is the MP for Nkoranza South, made the offer when he presented 15 computers and accessories valued at about 105 million cedis to the Nkoranza Secondary Technical School. The computers were a donation from World Link, an NGO in the United States working in partnership with the Ministry of Education to promote ICT programmes in 31 less endowed secondary schools in the country. Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi stated that the presentation was in fulfilment of the government's vision of promoting human resource development. He advised the students to attach importance to Information Communication Technology (ICT) training to enable them to face the challenges of the technological world.

Mr. James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah, District Chief Executive, commended the MP for his efforts towards the promotion of education in the district. He gave the assurance that the District Assembly would help to enhance the growth of the School and advised the students to lead morally upright lives and to take their education seriously. Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, District Director of Education, commended the government for promoting ICT in schools and expressed gratitude to the MP for supporting the pupils who took part in the marathon.

"The Nkoranza District Directorate of Education will also monitor the activities of the students who would take the study of ICT seriously and support them", he said.

Mr. Joseph Kwaku Adjei, Headmaster, appealed to the Deputy Minister to help the school to obtain a bus to facilitate the movement of the students and staff.

He also appealed for the construction of a dinning hall and the provision of paths and walkways on the compound to facilitate movement.
