New Atuabo (W/R), July 20, GNA - Madam Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister, has asked companies and business establishments to promote industrial peace to enable the government's Golden Age of Business policy to succeed.
She made the call when commissioning a block of six classrooms, a store and a teachers' common room at New Atuabo near Tarkwa and a workshop at Tarkwa Roman Catholic Junior Secondary School at separate ceremonies at the weekend.
Goldfields Ghana Limited built the projects with funds from its Foundation Trust Fund.
Madam Horner-Sam said the Golden Age of Business could succeed when there was industrial peace in the country. She urged communities that had benefited from projects of the Goldfields Ghana Limited to reciprocate the gesture by living in peace with the company.
Madam Horner-Sam commended the company for its high sense of responsibility in using some of its profit to improve living conditions in communities in its area of operation.
Mr John Botha, General Manager of Goldfields Ghana Limited, said the Foundation Trust Fund was established by the company in 2002 to support the development programmes of the government, especially in communities in its catchment area.
He said the Trust had so far spent 551,399 dollars on education, 794,130 dollars on health, 207,327 dollars on road and 552,857 dollars on miscellaneous infrastructure.
Mr Awuku Vifah Yemloney, an Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Administration, who represented the District Director of Education, praised Goldfields Ghana Limited for supporting education delivery in the area.
He said quality education was the cornerstone of the country's development but due to limited resources, the government was unable to provide all the facilities needed to promote quality education. Mr Stephen Yirenkyi, Community Affairs and Public Relations Manager of Goldfields Ghana Limited, said, at the beginning of every year, the company visited communities in its catchment area to ascertain their developmental needs.
He said the projects were then incorporated into the company's community development programme for the year. Nana Kweku Baah I, Chief of New Atuabo, thanked the company for its gesture and urged it to construct gutters for the newly built school in order to prevent flooding. 20 July 04
