The Appointments Committee of parliament has unanimously recommended the approval of Mrs Cynthia Lamptey, President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the position of Deputy Special Prosecutor.

Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu disclosed this to the media on Wednesday, 16 May 2018 shortly after the nominee had been vetted.

“We decided that we unanimously recommend her to the house to approve her. We are satisfied with her performance …she understands her work…,” Mr Osei-Owusu stated.

If approved, Ms Lamptey will assist Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu to deal with corruption-related cases.

During her vetting, Mrs Lamptey kicked against nepotism and cronyism, saying they impede investigation of crimes and also constitute conflict of interest.

According to the nominee, she is bringing on board 29 years of experience as a former state attorney and added that issues of conflict of interest will not be entertained in her line of duty.

She is a former Director of Public Prosecutions and also a lawyer of 30 years’ standing at the bar.
