Deranged man threatens to kill GES officials

Kodwo Ewusie Mensah, a 38-year-old Education Supervisor, was on Wednesday remanded into prison custody by a Cape Coast Circuit Court for threatening to kill two Ghana Education Service (GES) officials.

Mensah, who has a psychiatric history, pleaded not guilty and will be re-arraigned on Tuesday October 10.

Police Inspector Samuel Amoako told the Court presided over by Mrs Eva Bannerman Williams that on September 18, two GES officials, Mr Kwesi Addison and Ms Rebecca Kontor-Pinkrah, were in their office in the Cape Coast Ministries Block when the accused entered with a machete and without any provocation, threatened to kill them.

He said the confrontation attracted the attention of other workers in the building who came to their rescue by disarming the accused and driving him away.

The two later lodged a complaint with the police leading to his arrest, but Mensah’s father, who was in Court confirmed that his son is suffering from a mental illness.

The Court ordered that he should be sent to the Ankaful Psychiatric hospital for treatment before the next adjourned date.
