Kumasi, Dec 1, GNA - A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, has appealed to members to desist from acts that are likely to create confusion and portray the party as divided. Alhaji Gado Sulemana, said with the party's polling station elections now over, they should put the bickering and acrimony that hit some of the constituencies behind them, and work together to make the party's structures at the local level functional, to ensure victory in 2012 elections. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, he underscored the need for party members appointed by the government to various positions, to open their doors to the NDC's foot soldiers.
They should "put their ears on the ground" and address the concerns of the people.
He said as the government made efforts to fix the economy and create more jobs for the youth, it was important the party's functionaries exercised restraint.
Alhaji Gado urged the Health Minister to work to ensure that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), a major Government intervention that has brought so much relief to the people, is sustained. He said the Food and Agriculture Minister must also see to it that tractors and other farm inputs imported by the government are allocated to genuine farmers, and especially the youth eager to go into agriculture, in order to create jobs and improve food security.
He advised Muslim parents to give priority attention to the education of their children and to also maintain good environmental sanitation in their communities to prevent the spread of diseases.
Alhaji Gado commended Muslims for the peaceful celebration of the Eidul-Adha festival and urged them to rekindle their faith in Allah and conduct themselves well, to project a positive image of Islam. The Government, he said, deserves praise for assisting the Hajj Committee to successfully organize this year's Hajj. 1 Dec. 09
