Director-General is NOT paid 90 cedis million - Chairman

Mr John Saka Addo, Board Chairman of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) on Wednesday denied reports that the Director-General of the Trust was being paid a monthly salary of 90 million cedis.

Reacting to allegations of the high level of salary of the SSNIT boss as carried in some sections of the media, Mr Addo said remuneration for both the Director-General and his deputy was yet to be determined.

Mr Addo, who was launching the SSNIT "Strategic Plan 2002-2006" in Accra, said: "The issue of salary levels for the Director-General and his assistant have not been settled yet," adding that government was actively considering the issue.

In the said publications it was alleged that the Director-General received a monthly salary of 90 million cedis. Mr Addo said the Board had conducted and compiled research on the salary levels of Chief Executives of Public Institutions for comparative guidance to enable the government to reach a fair decision on the levels. Mr Addo said the Board would release information on the salary levels once government finished its work on it.
