Disability Bill to include international protocols

Wa, June 12, GNA - Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister has observed that the delay in passing the Disability Bill was due to efforts to update it to meet international protocols on disability. He said the bill was multi-sectoral that needed to be fashioned out holistically.

Mr Dery was reacting to concerns raised over the delay during a meeting with the Regional Executive of the Ghana National Association of the Physically Challenged in Wa. He assured the members that the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Development is taking into consideration all the legal frame work to ensure the protection of their rights. Mr Dery advised them to access the Poverty Alleviation Fund and other micro credit schemes to undertake income generating activities.

Mr Stephen Yaw Amakye, Second National Vice-President of the Association said the undue delay in passing the bill was frustrating and undermining the progress of the about 200 members in the region. He called on the Government to ensure that new building structures are made accessible to the physically challenged.
