The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, has presented a brand new tricycle (Aboboya) to the disappointed 2017 Overall Best Farmer of Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality in the Western Region.
Mr. John Enimil, a 35-year-old was adjudged as the Overall Municipal Best Farmer on Friday, December 1, 2017, became very disappointed after he was not given the prize he deserved. He returned all the items given to him to the Municipality.
He was given four knapsack sprayers, a bicycle, five wellington boots, nine cutlasses, 2 radio sets, a flat-screen TV and a table-top fridge.
After returning the items to the Municipal Agriculture Department, Mr. Enimil told www.ghanaweb.com that, "In 26, the Overall Best Farmer was given a brand new tricycle (Aboboya) so I was expecting the same or important items than this bicycle".
At a mini durbar held at Mankuma on Friday, December 51, 2017, the Deputy Lands Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for the area, Lawyer Oteng-Gyasi presented a tricycle (Aboboya) to the Municipal Best Farmer.
After the presentation, Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi told www.ghanaweb.com that, "It's unfortunate that he was unhappy with the award and I deemed it important to ensure that he gained a positive feeling from achieving the status of Municipal Best Farmer".
She revealed that she was out of the country during the 33rd Farmers' Day celebration.
"I was out of the country on official assignment and returned home to hear all the negative publicity which I considered a dent on the image of the Municipality", she revealed.
According to her, "All the winners in recent years received Aboboya plus other items. I was informed by the Municipality that the company which sponsored this item previously agreed to provide it this year as well but failed to make act on its promise".
She added that, "This resulted in the recipient feeling shortchanged, this has been rectified".
Mrs. Patience Enimil who received the tricycle (Aboboya) on her husband behalf, expressed her profound gratitude to the Deputy Lands Minister for the support.
"We are now happy as a family, God bless Lawyer Barbara Oteng-Gyasi for supporting us and this has washed away the embarrassment we received first", she said.
She also promised to make good use the Aboboya and pledged to work assiduously to make agriculture very attractive in the Municipality to increase food production.
This year's Farmers' Day celebration was on the theme' "Planting for Food and Job".
The Deputy Lands Minister was accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Officer, Mr. Mozart Kwaku Owuh, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Gabriel Adjargo, ruling NPP executives among others.
