District Coordinating Director becomes Chief

Bakpa-Dzave (V/R), Dec 12, GNA - The kingmakers of Bakpa-Dzave in the North Tongu District have enstooled Gershon Yao Gadzekpo, Nkwanta North District Coordinating Director, as their chief with the stool name, Togbe Dawudu Gletorwu IV.

Togbe Gletorwu fills the royal vacuum after 32 years, succeeding his late cousin, Togbe Dawudu Alawu III.

The new chief holds a second degree in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and has been a civil servant for 26, working in half of the 10 regions of the country. Togbe Gletorwu pledged to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability and promote fairness and uprightness. He said his priority would be to reverse the falling standards of education in the area and would, therefore, constitute a committee to work towards that goal.

He encouraged parents to perceive education as the major means for achieving socio-economic sufficiency and appealed for investments in the sector.

Togbe Gletorwu urged the people to resolve to maintain the peace, a crucial ingredient for rapid development, and advised the youth to be more productive.

Mr Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highways, and a native of the area, expressed gratitude to the kingmakers for filling the void, describing their action as a 'catalyst for accelerated development.' He called for total support from all and sundry to enable the new chief to succeed.

Mr Gidisu said the government's plans to provide good roads and support the self-help electrification programmes for the area, and the region in general, were on course and encouraged them not to be impatient because "everybody's time would come".
