The District Registration Review Committees, set up across the country to hear cases of prospective voters whose eligibility were challenged in the just-ended limited registration exercise, have begun work.

Speaking to Class News, Greater Accra Regional Director of the Electoral Commission Kwame Amoah explained the job of the committee.

He said the committees, comprising magistrates and High Court judges, have been given the power to operate as district tribunals.

According to him, the committees have begun hearing challenge cases in all districts across the country.

“They started their job soon after the first phase of the registration ended and it is ongoing,” he stated.

“The one who challenged and the one being challenged will appear before the committee and state their cases.

“Based on the evidence gathered by the committee, they determine whether the applicant qualifies or not.”

Mr Amoah said the committee had seven days by law to deal with any issue of challenge that would come before them.
