Sunyani March 29, GNA - Mr Agyemang Manu, Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, has announced plans by Government to provide 350 million cedis to every District Assembly in line with plans to modernise agriculture to ensure national food security. He said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was also committed to plans to provide skill training to the youth to make them productive and self- sufficient.
Mr Manu was speaking at a forum organised by the Sunyani Polytechnic branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP on the theme: "Positive Change Chapter Two, The Expectations Of The Ordinary Ghanaian", at Sunyani.
He said Government was to set up financial aid units in all the tertiary schools to help brilliant but needy students.
Mr Robert Sarfo Mensah, Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, stressed the determination of Government to carry on with Positive Change Chapter Two, in spite of efforts by its political opponents to undermine the development blue print.
He asked Ghanaians to forge the unity of purpose to ensure national development.
Mr Mensah asked the former President, Flt. Lt. Jerry Rawlings to apologise to the nation for comparing President John Kufuor with an armed robber, during the second "Wahala" demonstration, which was organised by the Committee for Joint Action in Accra in protest against the 50 per cent hike in petroleum products.
He said the Wahala demonstrations being organised throughout the country would not compel Government to review the decision since the world price for oil is on the increase.
Mr Gyan Martin, local President of TESCON appealed to the party hierarchy to speed up the process of issuing party identification cards to members of the confederacy.
