Districts fail to carry out projects on water

Bolgatanga, March 1, GNA - Ms Fati Mumuni, Extension Services Specialist (ESP), Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), has appeale= d to Municipal and District Assemblies that have not completely implemented their old water and sanitation projects to do so. Ms Mumuni said the small towns' water supply and sanitation (STWSS) projects were to have been completed in April last year before the new Ghan= a Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project (SRWSP) was started.

She said this during the launch of the SRWSP in Bolgatanga where stakeholders met to discuss the modalities of the project and sustainabilit= y issues. Ms Mumuni said majority of the assemblies performed poorly as they did not make any effort to work on boreholes that were broken down. She said most of the assemblies could not account for their projects but was full of praise for the Garu- Tempane District for the good work done. Ms Mumuni said the new projects had a five-year duration period to provide 250 boreholes under the International Development Associations project, saying it would run concurrently with the Government of Ghana 200 borehole project.

On the selection criteria, she said all six participating regions namel= y Upper East and West, Northern, Brong-Ahafo, Central and Western regions would benefit but the MDAs would come on board as they tried to complete th= e backlog of projects in the last STWSS.
