Kukuom (B/A), Sept 14, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor has said each district assembly is to be allocated two billion cedis for infrastructure development. He said the government's policy on the upgrading of a senior secondary school in every district would be pursued in the newly created districts as well.
President Kufuor said this when addressing a durbar of chiefs and people in the new Asunafo South District at Kukuom, its capital, on the second day of his five-day tour of the Brong Ahafo Region. He dismissed rumours that the allocation of 16 billion cedis for the upgrading of the SSS would be reduced. "These rumours are unfounded. The allocation will remain the same." President Kufuor appealed to the cocoa mass spraying gangs to avoid the temptation of diverting the insecticides, to be patriotic and to assist the cocoa farmers.
Osahene Aterkyi 11, the Omanhene of Kukuom Traditional Area, commended the government for the creation of the new district and for providing many development projects in the area since 2001. He appealed to the government for assistance to resolve a boundary dispute between the area and Atwima Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region.
Osahene Aterkyi appealed to the government to release the payment of bonuses to cocoa farmers on time to enable them to pay their children's school fees. He called for the early completion of some road projects in the area, particularly the Kwapong-Sankore road and the construction of a Police Station at Kukuom. President Kufuor also visited Sankore and Mim.
