?Do Not Dabble In Partisan Politics - Envoy To The Uk To Ncce.

H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana?s High Commissioner to the UK has stressed the need for the National Commission for Civic Education, (NCCE), to continue to be non-partisan in its activities if it is to win the confidence and support of the people of Ghana.

He said the work of the NCCE was crucial to the development of democracy and enhancement of good governance and stressed that it was imperative for members of the Commission not to dabble in partisan politics

High Commissioner Osei said in fulfilling its mandate within the spirit and letter of the Constitution especially in relation to civic responsibilities and appreciation of our rights as free people, there was the need to impress upon Ghanaians to exercise decorum and respect the views of others.

He declared: ?Democracy without discipline and tolerance can lead to chaos and undermine the concept of good governance vividly espoused by the government of the NPP?.

Mr. Osei praised the NCCE for its role in the enhancement of democracy in the country and the education of the people on their rights and responsibilities which, he said, might have contributed to the 82.3% voter turn-out in the 2004 elections.

Mr. Osei made these declarations when Mrs. Augustina Akosua Akumanyi, Deputy Chairperson of the Commission, Programmes, called on him to present a number of its publications to the Mission for use in its various outreach programmes. These included the 1992 Constitution and the abridged version, and various posters.

Mrs Akumanyi told the High Commissioner that the NCCE was mindful of its delicate responsibilities to the enhancement of good governance and would do everything possible to function within the framework of its mandate as enshrined in its 1992 Constitution.

She described as encouraging the response of the people of Ghana to the activities of the Commission, a trend which, she said, had prompted the staff to work extra hard towards the realisation of the objectives of the Commission.

Mr. Osei thanked the NCCE for the presentation and expressed the hope that more of such publications would be made available in the immediate future for the use by the over one hundred Ghanaian Community Associations in the UK in their educational programmes.
