Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Mayor of Kumasi, has cautioned members of the Metropolitan Assembly Taskforce to be up and doing.

The taskforce was constituted under the supervision of the Metropolitan Security Council to help prevent hawkers from trading on the road network, particularly those linking the newly-constructed Kejetia market.

The taskforce was also mandated to assist in the general maintenance of law and order at the Central Business District (CBD).

“You must do the right thing at all times, else, the Assembly would have no other choice than to dismiss you,” he warned the Taskforce.

Mr. Assibey-Antwi, who paid a surprise visit to the Taskforce in Kumasi, on his way to a meeting with traders at the Central Market, enjoined the members to be fair and firm in the discharge of their duties.

“Your work should be devoid of favouritism and unhealthy practices that tend to compromise on your terms of reference,” he remarked

This, he noted, was critical to ensuring that the citizenry abided by the by-laws of the Assembly to ensure that discipline prevailed in the city.

Mr. Assibey-Antwi, as part of his working visit and meeting with the traders, also interacted with several companies within the CBD, and advised them to always keep their surroundings clean.

They should not allow petty traders to sell in front of their facilities in order to decongest the pavements for free-flow of commuters and the traffic.
