Daniel Domelevo, the former Auditor General, has expressed skepticism about Dr. Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer's integrity when it comes to fighting corruption.

His statement was sparked by Dr. Bawumia's promise to address corruption, as reported by myjoyonline.com.

Domelevo challenged Dr. Bawumia during an interview on Joy News' Upfront to demonstrate his dedication by being transparent about the substantial funding for his campaign.

He stated, “The track record that he wants us to look at, can he tell us about the 80 million Ghana cedis which were used for the primaries? Can he tell us where it came from? He should have made that known to us. As a vice president, he doesn’t even get 50,000 cedis a month. So for eight years, he would not make more than 10 million. He should have told us that apart from my salary, I have these sources, my father left these, and I have investments which brought about the eighty-something million which I used for my party funding. We would have clapped for him.”

However, Mary Awelana Addah, the Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, has condemned the NPP’s anti-corruption proposals, stating that they lack the necessary elements.

She argued that the manifesto ignored relevant concerns raised by civil societies.

She said, “A manifesto which came with 260 pages, I was expecting that at least, we will have some dynamic or specific strategic interventions that will show how it will be done, but they are just statements that have been made. If you want to fight corruption, you need to show us that I am not corruptible. What are some of the indicators of that incorruptibility that you want to bring on board.”
