Don’t expect overnight solutions on sanitation problems - Minister

Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Kofi Adda Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Kofi Adda

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Joseph Kofi Adda has urged Ghanaians not to look forward to the huge sanitation problem in the country being fixed overnight.

A section of the public has demanded for the immediate sack of the Minister over his incompetence with some calling on the President to scrap the ministry and allow the local government ministry deal with the filth that has engulfed the country, a year after he was appointed.

Calls for Hon. Adda’s sack have become more intense after he recently sent people to clear up the refuse near the Australian High Commission after the High Commissioner’s tweet went viral.

But speaking to Francis Abban on Starr FM Wednesday, the former Energy Minister who dismissed calls for his dismissal insisting he has been effective, assured that Accra will be the cleanest city by the middle of this year.

“The overnight solution people are looking for in the Sanitation Ministry you’ll not get that… You want the Minister to go out there tomorrow with a broom and wheel barrow to collect the waste, that’s not the Minister’s job. I think they have to go back and understand what is the role of the Minister to start with and how should he collaborate with the others.

“I bet you, by middle of this year, you’ll find a totally transformed sanitation sector in this country that will last the test of time and that’s where I’ll be most effective.”
