Don't leave female minors in the care of men

Cape Coast, May 27, GNA- Mr Kwame Ohene Essel, a circuit court judge at Cape Coast, on Thursday, advised parents and guardians against leaving little girls in the care of men.

He said this could entice the men to abuse the minors. Mr Essel gave the advice when he remanded Nathaniel Kwaku Acheampong, a 23-year-old electrician in prison custody, for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old pupil.

He pleaded not guilty and he is to re-appear on Thursday, June 10.

The court was told that the victim was left under the care of the accused, even though there were women around.

Police Inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court that the victim lived in a house with her elder sister, Madam Cynthia Sam while the accused also lived in the same house.

The prosecution said last Monday, Madam Sam visited her husband who lived elsewhere and left the victim in the care of the accused. On her return, Madam Sam detected that her sister, could not walk properly, and upon questioning, she disclosed that Acheampong had sexually abused her on two occasions whilst she was away.

Acheampong denied the offence and a medical report on the victim showed that she had been sexually abused, Inspector Azasoo added.
