Right Honourable Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi-Hughes, former Speaker of Parliament, has advised delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain loyal, committed and united after the regional executive elections.
He said every election produced either a winner or loser, therefore, all the contestants should accept the outcome of the elections in good stride in order to re-capture power from the ruling National Democratic Congress in the 2016 general elections.
Rt. Hon. Sekyi-Hughes gave the advice at the ongoing Western Regional NPP executive elections at the Takoradi Polytechnic Auditorium on Saturday.
He entreated candidates who would lose the elections not to defect from the party but rather support the elected executives to propel the party to victory in the next elections.
He said although he lost elections as the first National Vice-Chairman in the late 1990s, he remained loyal to the party until he was re-elected to the National Council of Elders and subsequently appointed as the Speaker of Parliament during the NPP Administration.
Nana Owusu Ankomah, outgoing Western Regional Chairman of the party, entreated the delegates to vote for committed candidates that could work assiduously to re-capture power in 2016.
In all, about 500 delegates are vying for 10 regional positions.
Mr Steve Opoku-Mensah, Regional Electoral Officer, conducted the elections while the Regional Election Committee played supervisory role.
