The National Peace Council (NPC) has urged political parties and followers to moderately celebrate their Election 2024 victories.

Rt Rev. Richardson Aboagye Andam, the Central Regional Chairman of the Council, said excessive celebrations and provocative gestures could provoke tensions among opponents, potentially leading to violence and disrupting national peace.

He advised against mockery and encouraged respect among political rivals to maintain national harmony, peace, and tranquillity post-election.

The Council’s call aligns with broader efforts to prevent political violence and uphold democratic principles in the country, the Central Regional Chairman said at a youth empowerment Symposium in Cape Coast.

On the theme: “Putting Ghana First,” the event was organised by Youth Vision International, a reputable non-governmental organisation dedicated to fostering youth empowerment and ensuring peace in the election, with support from the Peace Council.

He described Ghana as being at a crossroads in the 2024 elections due to significant socio-economic expectations, challenges, and the contrasting visions of its political parties.

This election symbolises a critical decision point for Ghanaians, reflecting their desire for change or continuity amidst protracted issues of inflation, public debt, and dissatisfaction under the Fourth Republic.

Considering that, he said voters face a pivotal choice that could reshape the nation’s future direction, impacting economic policies and social stability for years ahead.

The Central Regional Council Chairman reminded the electorate against vote buying and selling, saying, “The phrase “don’t sell your vote” emphasises the importance of voting with integrity and not allowing external influences to sway your decision.”

It aligns with the principles of democratic engagement and civic responsibility, reminding the electorate to prioritise their beliefs over monetary or coercive incentives.

For him, engaging in the electoral process with honesty ensures that representatives truly reflect the will of the people.

Richard Ohene-Kwashie from Vision Youth International reaffirmed the organisation’s steadfast dedication to empowering the younger generation for the progress of the nation.

He encouraged the youth to acknowledge the priceless value of peace, underscoring that the stability of Ghana should never be jeopardised under any circumstances.
