Achiase (Ash), June 13, GNA-Opanin Yaw Owusu-Weabour, the Atwima District best cocoa farmer for 2002, has called on the Atwima District mass cocoa spraying task force to ensure that the mistakes they committed during the last spraying exercise were not repeated during the forthcoming phase of the exercise.
He said the mistakes were not repeated, the modest gains achieved so far since the exercise was started by the government would not suffer any setbacks.
Opanin Owusu-Weabour made the call through the Ghana News Agency during a visit to his farm at Achiase on Friday.
He said the inadequate number of spraying gangs in the area, noted for high cocoa production, seriously affected a lot of farmers. They were either left out of the exercise or received very little attention. Opanin Owusu-Weabour deplored the practice where the only spraying gang in the area demanded the passbooks of farmers before spraying their farms and complained that cocoa farms established under three years ago were left out because their owners could not produce passbooks. He commended the government for embarking on the exercise to boost cocoa production in the country and said it was yielding very fruitful results.
