The Paramount Chief of Klikor Traditional Area in the Ketu South District of the Volta Region, Togbui Addo, has advised residents in Letakor not to take advantage of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound situated in the community ‘to give birth unnecessarily’.

According to him, women in the area take delight in giving birth even as they have to travel long distances to deliver, hence his fear child birth would witness an increase due to the provision of the health facility.

Togbui Addo VII gave the advise at Letakor during the commissioning ceremony of the CHPS compound provided by the United States Agency for International Development (UASID) in partnership with the Korean International Incorporation Agency (KOICA).

The traditional ruler said, “The manner in which the women were dancing indicated they were very happy because a health facility is now closer to them, but the CHPS compound should not open the flood gate for giving birth indiscriminately.”

“The facility is to help lessen our predicaments in accessing health and child birth. You [residents] give birth indiscriminately, you must reduce the rate at which you give birth because the whites who brought us this facility don’t give birth like we do,” he cautioned.

Togbui Addo appreciated the gesture of the USAID and KOICA and appealed for similar facilities to be constructed in other communities in the Klikor Traditional area.

The USAID/Ghana Mission Director, Sharon Cromer, implored the community and health workers to collaborate towards ensuring the objective of the facility which is promoting good health is achieved.

The facility contains a labour, family planing unit, consulting and recovery rooms.

It is also attached with a water storage facilities, borehole, solar panels, an incinerator and a two unit residential apartment.
