Don't trample on the rights of children - NCCE director tells parents

Abesewa (Ash), July 28, GNA - Mr. Kusi Aborah, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has cautioned parents not to trample upon the rights of their children. He said such a situation could land them into trouble since denying children their rights contravene the Children's Act.

Mr Aborah gave the caution when he addressed separate durbars at Abesewa, Kunsu-Camp, Kunsu-Dotiem, Kwamekyemkrom, all in the Ahafo-Ano South district of Ashanti on Tuesday during a two-day tour. The tour was organised by the district office of the NCCE to sensitise the people on the Children's Act and their constitutional rights. The Regional NCCE Director therefore, entreated parents to bring up their children in an atmosphere of peace and love and not engage them in child labour, reminding them that they had a responsibility to provide them with all their needs including their needs for school.

Mr Aborah told parents and guardians that it was obligatory for them to ensure the proper upbringing of their children since they (children) did not ask to be brought into the world. He said instead of spending their money extravagantly on funerals and alcohol, they should rather invest the money in the education of their children. Mr. Aborah asked them to pay their taxes to enable them to enjoy more social amenities like potable water, electricity and good roads among others so as to improve upon their standard of living. Mr. Isaac Gyimah, the District Director of the NCCE, commended the chiefs and people of the communities for their co-operation and asked them to continue to work in harmony with the Commission.
