President Akufo Addo must guard against the tendency of wanting to solve all of Ghana’s problems within one year, lest he makes mistakes, Vice President of policy think-thank Imani, Kofi Bentil has said.
The President during his presentation of his first State of the Nation Address in Parliament last Tuesday stated that he will never slow down in his quest to ensure that Ghana is put on the path to economic growth.
“Mr. Speaker, just after my swearing in ceremony, I have been able to put my team that will help me to govern this great nation. I have heard some people saying that he [Akufo-Addo] is behaving like a man in a hurry.”
“Mr. Speaker, I am indeed in a hurry and in a great hurry”, he noted.
According to the Ghanaian leader, ” the time in which we live demands that we all be in a hurry to deal with the problems that face us”.
But speaking on Joy FM’s News File show Saturday, Lawyer Kofi Bentil stated that the Akufo Addo led-government should not try to solve all of Ghana’s problems and please everyone within its first year, as it will be counter productive.
“If a problem must be solved in a durable way, we must be deliberate about it, thinking through instead of reacting. NPP, we think you can solve the problem…but please don’t try and solve everything tomorrow, you’ll make the same old mistakes. Look, students are out there stressed and stranded, some of them send me emails that their fees have not been paid, and basically being thrown out. Everywhere you pass there are real problems, but again if you try and solve every problem, you are not going to give us a durable enough solution, so let’s take our time and go about it in a very correct way and not try to please every body in the first year.”
