The Member of Parliament for Tano North, Freda Prempeh, has dismissed calls for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to hold a media engagement.

According to Prempeh, former President John Dramani Mahama should instead participate in a debate that will be covered by the press, which she believes will address all concerns.

Speaking after Alhaji Yussif Jajah, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North Constituency, called on the Majority to hold a media encounter to address journalists' concerns, Freda Prempeh stated, "Mr. Speaker, we are calling for the debate. When the debate is on, the press will cover the debate, so it is not a matter of appearing before the press. Just come for the debate; the video will be there, and you can ask questions."

This statement follows Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s challenge to former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to a live presidential debate.

Bawumia urged Mahama to show up for this debate so they can both explain their respective visions and policies to the people of Ghana.

The call for a debate has generated significant reactions, especially after Mahama's campaign team rejected the idea of any presidential debate.

Dr. Bawumia expressed his eagerness for a debate on the economy, governance, and the country’s future, although he remains skeptical, suggesting that Mahama is 'running away.'

"I am looking forward to a debate with John Mahama on the economy, on the country, on governance," Dr. Bawumia asserted.
