Dormaa DCE on tour

Wamfie (B/A) Sept. 3, GNA - Dormaa District Assembly has instituted a special award for any community that would present more females than males for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Squadron Leader Benjamin Anane Asamoah, District Chief Executive, made the pledge at separate meetings with six area councils in the district.

The councils were Asoatiano, Wamfie, Dormaa-Akwamu, Kyeremasu, Wamanafo and Akontanim. In a stereotyped message for the councils, the DCE appealed to parents and guardians to send their children, especially the girls, to school to help increase female enrolment.

Squadron Leader Anane-Asamoah paid glowing tribute to his predecessors and assured the people that he would build on their performance to accelerate the district's development. He called on the people to support and co-operate to enable the District Assembly harness available resources for development. The DCE called on dormant councils to re-focus on improving the revenue base of the district by ensuring that available human and material resources are diversified to yield appreciable dividends.

On chieftaincy disputes, Squadron Leader Anane-Asamoah gave the assurance that the government was ready to support feuding factions willing to secure amicable settlement of conflicts.

"Even though the District Assembly has not got the political mandate to meddle in chieftaincy disputes, my administration will work assiduously to encourage traditional authorities to come together and serve as the pivot around which peace and development would evolve in communities", he said.

The people called on the DCE and the Assembly to extend development projects such as schools, potable water, electricity, sanitation, places of convenience and good roads to their areas.

They appealed to the government to, as a matter of urgency, create another district in the area, explaining that the district, which is the largest in the region was more than qualified to be granted another district.

The councils called on the Assembly to enforce its bye-laws on education and also to institute new laws to curb, not only the hike in funeral expenses but also the daily holding of funerals.
