Double Voter Nabbed

A 35 YEAR old unemployed man who is believed to have registered twice as a voter was grabbed last Saturday by the police at the Darkuman Pentecost polling station after he turned up to cast his ballot.

Oscar Klutse, 35, allegedly registered twice during the voter registration exercise held in April.

Accra Regional Police Commander, COP Patrick Timbillah said the suspect first registered with the name Oscar Klutse at polling centre number CO80102, Nyamekye Pentecost Church No 2, Darkuman on April 2. He later went to the Abossey Okai Central Mosque Adiembra Centre with number C012602 to register as Oscar Agbetepe Klutse on April 5.

During the compilation of data by the Electoral Commission, it was detected that the suspect had registered twice.

When polling for the general election opened on Friday December 7, the suspect popped up at the Pentecost Church number two Darkuman polling station to vote when the verification machine exposed him.

The electoral officer who detected it handed him over to the police for investigation.

Earlier, the Teshie district police also arrested an electoral officer from the Ledzokuku constituency who allegedly conspired with his gang to manipulate the electoral results.

The suspect identified as Michael Osei is in the custody of the Nungua Divisional Police Command awaiting trial.

The regional commander said police received information from a polling agent that the suspect had tampered with the collated results.

When the police stormed the collation center, the suspect was found with three others secretly changing the figures of the results without the knowledge of the polling agents.

He was immediately arrested and handed over to the national police CID to be prosecuted but his accomplices managed to escape.
