Downpour in Accra did not cause serious flooding

Accra, March 9,GNA - The Downpour in parts of Accra on Wednesday morning did not cause the usual floods that had characterised the city, especially in the low lying areas that lacked good drainage systems. A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) around Alajo, Sowutuom, North Kaneshie, Abeka-Lapaz, Mataheko and Odorkor showed no sign of flooding as residents were seen going about their normal duties.

A few people were spotted desilting some gutters at Mataheko, to make room for the free flow of water gathered in small patches. Auntie Bea, a Kenkey Seller, said: " The rain was a wake up call to residents that the rainy season has started and they must desilt all choked drains in the area to avert any disaster especially flooding." Some residents at Alajo, a flood-prone area of Accra said they heaved a sigh of relief that the rain did not cause any havoc.

They, however, complained about the strong winds that accompanied the rain that lasted for about 45 minutes.
