Accra, (Greater Accra) 26 Oct.,
President Jerry John Rawlings in consultation with the Council of State, has appointed members of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission with Dr. S.K. B. Asante as chairman. Other members are Mr. Appiah Korang, former PNDC Secretary for Fuel and Power, Mr. R.B.W. Hesse, management and development consultant and Dr. Y. Akoto, an Engineer/Financial analyst. The rest are, Mrs. Grace Orleans, former Solicitor-General, representing consumers, Mr. K. Osei Poku, former Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation, Mr. Andrew Quayson, an engineer, representing the Association of Ghana Industries and Mr. Kwasi Adu Amankwah, representing the Trades Union Congress. An official statement signed by Mr. J.L.M. Amissah, Secretary to the Cabinet said Dr. Asante is to take steps to "formally establish the commission.'' The commission is to fix tariffs for public utilities when the bill setting up the commission receives Presidential assent.
