Dr Berko introduced as new Omanhene of Agona

Agona (Ash), Feb. 19, GNA - Dr Daniel Kwasi Berko, a Principal Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), was on Monday introduced to the people as the Omanhene-elect of the Agona traditional area in the Afigya-Sekyere District of Ashanti. The 62-year-old lecturer succeeds Nana Kwame Boakye Yiadom II, who died in January 1995. His nomination and acceptance brings to an end a protracted chieftaincy dispute at Agona.

The Agona stool known as the 'Komfo Anokye' stool is one of the important stools in Ashanti in view of the position of Komfo Anokye in Ashanti history.

The Omanhene-elect was carried shoulder high after the customary rites had been performed by Nana Kwabena Buor, the chief linguist to signify his acceptance.

Dr Berko is expected to swear the oath of allegiance to the kingmakers and people of Agona at a date to be announced later. He would also swear the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at a date to be fixed at the Manhyia Palace. 19 Feb. 04
