Professor Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, the National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for the Essikado-Ketan constituency, made history by becoming the first candidate to win the seat on the ticket of the NDC.
In the elections held on December 7, not only did Professor Grace Ayensu-Danquah break the dominance of the NPP in the constituency, but she also won with a historic gap of more than 8,000 votes.
While Charles Bissue of the NPP polled 17,754 votes, Professor Dr. Ayensu-Danquah garnered a whopping 26,166 votes, which is an outstanding record for Professor Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, who was running for the post for the second time.
The victory by Professor Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah marks a significant breakthrough for the NDC, who have not won in the constituency since it was established.
Responding to her victory in the polls, Professor Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah expressed immense appreciation to God and the residents of the constituency for keeping faith with her and showing confidence in her.
She applauded the constituents for not falling for the vote-buying tactics of her opponent, who is alleged to have distributed money and items in a bid to secure votes.
The new MP-elect for the Essikado-Ketan constituency also commended her team, the executives of the NDC in the constituency, and leading figures of the NDC for their support.
She noted that her victory and that of John Dramani Mahama is indicative of the anger and rejection of the NPP by Ghanaians, who she reckons have suffered for eight years.
She promised to work and deliver on her promises to the constituency.
