Sekondi, April 16-GNA-Dr Atta Kobina Kennedy, a Ghanaian medical doctor based in the United States, on Saturday declared his intention to contest for the Presidential Candidacy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). In an interaction with the press at Sekondi, Dr Kennedy said one of his top priorities would be to stamp out corruption to make it possible to develop the private sector.
He said corruption is the bane of the private sector and these days nobody cares about how he gets rich and incompetent people with requisite qualification are appointed to responsible positions. Dr Kennedy said the country has too many ministers and he would reduce the number by 25 percent if he became the president and decentralise political power.
He said the National Health Insurance Scheme is one of the best policies of the government and he would strengthen the scheme to make the treatment of about 15 diseases free of charge.
Dr Kennedy said rural development would receive considerable attention under his government and he would also strengthen institutions such as the Judicial Service and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
