Dr. Kojo Asante; Ghanaian Doctor with several honours

Dr. Kojo Asante, a retired Pediatrician in Vancouver, BC was recently honoured at a Black History Month event hosted by the City of Vancouver. The city of Vancouver Mayor, Gregor Robertson presented a special award to Dr. Asante for his lifetime of distinguished work in fetal Alcohol syndrome (FAS)research on February 5, 2016.

His research into FAS has been so significant that a research centre into FAS has been opened in Vancouver bearing his name. In 2000, the Asante Center for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome opened with the help and efforts of concerned parents and professionals. He is an internationally recognized expert in the area of FAS and alcohol-related birth defects.

Her Excellency Adrianne Clarkson, the Governor General of Canada, recognized Dr. Asante for the founding of the Asante Center for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. He was awarded the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Medal in Ottawa, December of 2003.

In May 2004, Dr. Asante also received the distinguished Honorary Doctorate of Laws Degree from the University of Northern British Columbia. He is the recipient of many other awards, invitations and honours.
