Dr. Limann's family accuses some PNC of betrayal

Gwollu (U/W), Jan. 25, GNA - The family of late President Hilla Limann has accused some national executive members of the People National Convention (PNC) of betraying the cause of the late President by forming alliance with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the 2008 general election.

Addressing a news conference at Gwollu on Sunday to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the death of former President Limann, the family said it was unpardonable for the PNC to form alliance with NDC, a political party that has its roots from the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) that overthrew the late President Limann and humiliated him.

A statement signed and read by the head of the Limann Family of Gwowuse Clan of Gwollu, Kuoro Kuri Buktie Limann, said the PNC, founded by Dr. Limann, had now aligned itself with the NDC government of President John Atta Mills both to consolidate parliamentary majority and to help execute the business of government.

The statement said an agreement was signed to give public recognition and rehabilitation of Late President Limann as founder of the PNC.

Under the agreement there will be a memorial in a public location in Accra and a mausoleum in Gwollu for the preservation of his tomb.

Also, appropriate befitting financial and material sustenance of the Limann family was also agreed upon as well as guaranteed upon as well as an apology was to the Limann family but noted that up till now no apology had been rendered.

The statement appealed to President Mills to complete a Tourist Research Centre and a palace in Gwollu that were started by former President John Agyekum Kufuor's administration.

It suggested that a high academic institution, an avenue or city roundabout or cycle in Accra be named after late President Limann.

The statement also called on President Mills to upgrade the University for Development Studies (UDS) Campus in Wa to a full-fledged University of Agriculture in memory of Dr. Limann.
