Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe celebrates 78th birthday

Born in Accra on May 7, 1942, Capt (Rtd) Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe turns 78-years-old today. He spent his childhood in Adabraka, a suburb of Accra.

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe left Ghana for Shrekoslovakia in the sixties where he was trained as a Medical Doctor at the Faculty of Medicine, Charles University (Prague). He is also an alumnus of Zion College (Keta).

As a trained a physician, he practised medicine in Ghana (initially as a member of the Ghana Armed Forces), Nigeria, and the United States.

He then joined the Military in 1972 as a Medical Doctor during General I.K. Acheampong’s Supreme Military Council government era.

Against the backdrop of the increasingly politicized military in the early days, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe was detained for his involvement in a coup plot to overthrow General I.K. Acheampong’s government.

In the eighties, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe also served as Management Chair and Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Ghana’s premier football club. He subsequently served as the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is a founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a civil rights activist. He served as Ghana’s Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro in 2005 during the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration.

Since returning to Ghana in 2009, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has been a regular media commentator on politics and sports in Ghana.

He is also a member of the Council of Patrons of Hearts of Oak, and a member of the Board of Directors of the club.

He is the co-author of the book ‘Never Say Die! The Autobiography of a Ghanaian Statesman'.
