Driver in trouble for insulting Mayor

A taxi driver has been dragged to court for insulting the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije after allegedly driving recklessly along the Mallam-Kasoa road.

Suspect Amos Joe Abeka who was behind the wheel of a Toyota taxi cab with registration GC 1584-09 was seen dangerously changing lanes around 4:30pm last Sunday.

When he was spotted by the AMA boss and cautioned, he rained insults on the mayor.

He was immediately arrested and handed over to the Odorkor Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) for prosecution.

The incident was confirmed to DAILY GUIDE by Odorkor MTTU Commander, ASP Mumuni Abdulai.

Reports say the suspect was seen changing lanes without giving any indication and disregarding other road users.

When the mayor pointed out his behavior to him around the Sakaman Junction, the suspect threw his hands in the air and started insulting Mr. Vanderpuije. He was trailed and consequently arrested by the mayor.

He was later handed over to the MTTU for prosecution.

Suspect Abeka has since been arraigned before the Ablekuma Sanitation and Motor Court presided over by Alberta Amponsah.

He was fined GH¢300 or in default spend three months in jail.
