Driver jailed seven years for defilement

Mpraeso, June 17, GNA - A Circuit Court at Mpraeso presided over by Mr Kwabena Asumadu-Adu has sentenced a 19-year-old driver at Nkawkaw to seven year's imprisonment in hard labour (LHL) for defiling a 14-year-old house-help. Emmanuel Opoku Acheampong pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Gyamera Acheampong told the court that in February, this year, Acheampong met the victim at the Nkawkaw-Nsuta Lorry Park selling iced water. He said the accused bought 200 cedis worth of the iced water after which he proposed love to her and later took her on his trotro bus to the Adensuaso Guest House where he sexually assaulted her. The prosecutor said since then the driver had been having regular sexual intercourse with the victim at the Guest House whenever she went out to sell iced water. He said on June 5, this year, after having sex with her in the afternoon, the accused went to the victim's house in the evening to pick her to spend the night with her and parked his vehicle at a distance and went to the house to call her to board the vehicle.

Chief Inspector Acheampong said when the victim was about to board the vehicle, her mistress, a Policewoman who was returning home from duty appeared on the scene but Acheampong managed to drive away. He said the victim later narrated all that had happened between the two of them and a report was made to the Nkawkaw Unit of Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) where a medical form was issued to her to attend hospital for medical examination. The Prosecution said the accused was later arrested and charged with the offence.
