Emmanuel Nii Duodu Addy, the personal driver of the president?s mother, who allegedly beat a taxi driver to death at Tema, is on admission at the Tema General Hospital.

Nii Doudu Addy, who has been handcuffed to his bed under Police guard was said to have collapsed in cells at the Community One Police station just when he was about to be sent to court. He was, therefore, rushed to the hospital where he was admitted at the senior male ward.

Addy was alleged to have chased Mr. Kwasi Kuma, a 27 year-old taxi driver to the Tema Development Corporation area after Kuma had crossed him at the Padmore Traffic light at Community One. A Police source said, when Kuma stopped, Addy ignored pleas from a passenger on the taxi and slapped him. Kuma collapsed on the street and Addy drove his victim to the Port Clinic, a private hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. At the time of the incident, Addy was driving the vehicle of Madam Victoria Agbotui, mother of President Jerry John Rawlings.
