Driver on bail for reckless driving

Osmanu Ibrahim, 43, a driver, has been granted bail by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for reckless driving and negligently causing harm to five people.

His bail was GHc10,000, with two sureties to be justified.

Ibrahim pleaded guilty with explanation to dangerous driving but guilty to negligently causing harm.

He will re-appear before the Court on November 26.

Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the Court that on June 6, around 1300 hrs, the accused person was driving a Kia Rhino Cargo truck loaded with scraps from Enchi towards Kumasi.

He said on reaching Wasa Adiembra, Ibrahim swerved into the opposite lane and crashed with an oncoming Kia Rio taxi cab which was being driven Kwame Korankye, 25.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said Korankye and four persons on board the cab were all trapped to death.

A post-mortem examination conducted on the deceased’s, Kwame Amoah, 68, Kwadwo Anku Mensah 62, Joseph Korankye, 55, Kwame Polo, 35 and the taxi driver indicated that they died as a result of traumatic brain injuries.

The Prosecutor said both vehicles were found to be in good working condition, when Mr Amos Abeka, the assistant manager of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, in charge of Dunkwa-On-Offin examined them.
