An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced Alfred Owusu, an apprentice mate, to 13 years imprisonment for defiling a 13-year-old girl at Sakaman.
Owusu pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty by the court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyemang-Budu at the end of the trial.
Prosecuting, Detective Police Inspector J.B Asante told the court that the complainant is a retired nurse living with the victim at Sakaman, while Alfred, a driver’s mate, also lives in the same house with the complainant and victim.
He said on January 2, the victim started complaining of headache, stomach ache and lower abdominal pains to the complainant. The complainant later detected that the victim bleeds whenever she attends natures call.
He said the complainant therefore questioned the victim as to whether she was menstruating, but she confined in the complainant that it was Alfred who forcibly had sexual intercourse with her, while she was taking her bath somewhere in the latter part of December 2014.
Detective Police Inspector Asante told the court that the complainant therefore contacted the convict who admitted having had sexual intercourse with the victim.
He said the case was reported to the Dansoman Police, where a police medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for medical examination.
The convict was later arrested and after investigations, was charged with the offence.
