Kumasi, Dec 18, GNA - A 24-year-old driver's mate, Michael Atta also known as "Kakra", has been jailed 18 months by a Kumasi Circuit Court for burglary. He was accused of breaking into the room of a couple and stealing two cell phones and GH¢340. Atta denied the offence.
Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that on September 29 the complainant, Ibrahim Mohamed, and his wife woke up at about 0400 hours and found that the windows of their room were opened.
They detected that their two mobile phones and cash totalling GH¢340 had been stolen. On October 4 a relative of the complainant saw a phone without the battery on sale at Krofrom that looked like Mohammed's and passed on the information to him.
Police Chief Inspector Baffour Kyei said Mohammed rushed there and identified it as his stolen phone. He feigned interest and when the seller inserted the battery, a stored picture of Mohammed appeared on the screen and he immediately caused his arrest.
At the police station Atta was mentioned as the one who brought it to be sold and he was picked up. She said a search of his room by the police later uncovered 15 MTN and Tigo chips and an Ecobank cheque book bearing the name of Baba Haruna, believed to have been stolen.
