A Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced a driver's mate to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for allegedly defiling a twelve-year-old pupil.
Kofi Agyeman pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge of defilement and was convicted on his own plea.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, told the court that, the victim’s father, a farmer lived with her daughter and the convict in the same house at Nwanta a village near Prestea in the Western Region.
She said on May 18, 2019, at about 1930 hours, Agyeman lured the victim into his room and sexually assaulted her but a witness chanced upon them in the act.
The Prosecution said the witness questioned the convict who pleaded with him in tears not to tell anyone about the incident.
She said on that same day the witness informed the victim’s father and a report was made to the Police in Prestea where Agyeman was arrested for interrogation.
Chief Inspector Anaman said during investigation the convict informed the police that he had sex with the victim on four different occasions and not eight times as was being alleged by the victim.
She said a medical report form was issued to the victim to seek medical attention.
The Prosecution said when the victim was examined medically, it was revealed that she had been defiled.
