A Tarkwa circuit court has remanded Lawrence Beakoe, a 24 year-old driver of the Bogoso branch of KK Gold Buying Enterprise, into prison custody for stealing GH¢ 600,000 belonging to the company.
The accused is said to have bought three vehicles, motor bike, Nokia mobile phone and a laptop from the money. He was however arrested from his hideout at Ajumako in the Central Region when he attempted to buy a piece of land as well.
Beakoe’s plea was not taken and he will re-appear on June 16. Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on May 24, the owner of the company and the accused who was driving the vehicle travelled to Accra to cash the money.
He said when they were about to reach Bogoso, the owner of the company got down from the vehicle to arrange for a security personnel to escort them to his office.
When he walked a few meters away from the vehicle, Beakoe sped off the vehicle containing the money and later abandoned it in a bush without the money.
The Prosecutor said Beakoe went into hiding at Ajumako in an attempt to purchase a piece of land was identified by some young men who had seen his photograph published in the news papers.
They reported him to the police and he was arrested and handed over to the police in Tarkwa.
