Drivers urged to charge approved fares

Twifo Praso (C/R), April 28, GNA - Mr Robert K. Eshun, Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private and Road Transport Union (GPRTU) on Wednesday called on drivers not to take undue advantage of the recent petrol price increase to charge exorbitant transport fares. He also advised them to desist from driving at "breakneck" speed to avoid accidents.

Mr. Eshun, who was addressing newly elected officers of the Twifo Praso branch of the GPRTU at Praso, attributed the high incidents of road accidents to careless driving, unnecessary overtaking and lack of maintenance of vehicles.

He advised the drivers to always observe traffic regulations and maintain their vehicles at all times.

He commended the new officers for their contributions in the past towards the development of the union and asked them to work harder to enable them generate enough revenue to buy a vehicle for the Union. Mr Jonas K. Bennin, the new branch chairman, thanked union members for the honour done him and asked them to co-operate with the executives to ensure a smooth administration.

The other officers are, Mr. Kofi Antwi, Vice Chairman, Mr Edward K. Mensah, Secretary and Messrs Ben K. Adamah and Stephen Boadi first and second trustees respectively.
