Crowds who gather around the Santasi roundabout, a suburb of Kumasi either to board commercial vehicles or to transact business escaped a fatal accident when a drunken driver from nowhere veered off the circumference of the roundabout driving into a 2017 registered Toyota Camry.

On seeing the police, the helpless driver attempted absconding but his intoxicated senses didn’t help him much as he reversed climbing into the centre of the roundabout.

Drivers from the Redeemer taxi station had to rush to stop him from causing any further damage.

An eye witness Akwasi Boadu told Ultimate News, “all of a sudden the driver pulled into the Camry which was parked in the triangle. He kicked in his reverse gear and by the time we realized, he had climbed the round about.”

“We rushed in there and forced him out of the car. He was all wasted drunk. We held him down till the police came and picked him up. He would have caused deaths if the people were close to this place,” he narrated.

The culprit who was seen lying in the back of a taxi cap unable to speak was rushed off by two officers of the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).

It is however unclear whether he was being sent to the hospital or the police station.
