Duncan-Williams' marriage sermon courts controversy

In perhaps his daring sermon yet Archbishop Duncan Williams of the Christian Action Faith Ministries (CAFM) has divided opinions about his ‘Stop Pretending’ themed messages which seek to urge single ladies to appreciate the difficulty in securing husbands whiles cautioning married ones to be thankful for marriage, remain true to their marriage vows in addition to spicing up things in the bedroom.

Drawing his message from Isaiah 4:1:"In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, "We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!" the papa as he is fondly called reminded the ‘ sisters’ that “according to scripture in the time we live in 7 women will beg 1 man just to carry his name to take away the shame and reproach”.

The bishop who has been in the news lately added “when you are married, it’s not because you are beautiful, sexy or romantic, it’s not because your perfume is better, it’s just by grace and mercy. So be thankful, don’t let it get to your head and treat the man right”.

Delving deeper, papa Williams aimed the shot at the arrogant and self-conceited ladies “don’t punish him… you zip your pants and punish him because he fears God but neglect the consequences of your fatal actions” adding “stop these ‘abrofosem’ because 7 women are line waiting for you to miss it… there are hijacking spirits oo” he added.

Still on what women could do to secure their marriage unions Mr. Williams said “bath, take care of yourself, smell good and loose some weight” buttressing his point, the Action Chapel don cited the example of a Chinese groom who was on a honeymoon with his bride and was readying for (action) only to find his wife removing her eye lashes, breast pads and weave, the transformation shocked the man so much that he collapsed. The advice was for the women to stop pretending and be real.

The Presiding Archbishop and General Overseer of Christian Action Faith Ministries reinforced his call that those in marriage unions ought to be thankful for the opportunity citing a case of a pastor in America who confided in him that his wife beats and slaps him even at times using the sole of her shoe to hit him without provocation but feared calling in the police because no one would believe him.

Archbishop Williams whose strong dynamic ministry has over 20,000 members in Ghana said after undertaking checks with the husband beater who was strong in the faith before heading to USA acknowledged her misdeeds citing the fun she derives as motivation whereupon the papa said he advised the man to take martial arts classes.

Still on the call for people to stop pretences, papa cited the case of a male minister who hardly gets active when gospel ministrations are on except for one time when he got immersed in the celebrations only to have his wig fall off.

Archbishop Williams said although God is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse people from sin, he exercises discretion explaining when David committed adultery and murder, he dealt with him but kept him on the throne.
